Going to Florida, need help
Callen and I are heading to florida in a couple of weeks ( Callen won't know what to do, what with it being warm and not covered in snow)
Anyway, is there anytime of sun screen that a 2 1/2month old can wear? Any travel tips? I am also a bit concerned about breastfeeding, I am wondering how friendly they are to nursing moms on the plane and in the airport.
Any ideas on making taking off and landing comfortable for him? I never have any problems with my ears, but who knows if he will.
I am nervous, but my cousin is travelling with me, so that should help. Any tips would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Chrissy

They make baby sunscreen that's SPF 50, you should be able to find some at any pharmacy. I would also suggest letting him either suck on a paci or on a bottle during take off and landing...it helps with the pressure.
IMHO, who cares what people think of your breastfeeding...if they have a problem with it, let them put a blanket over THEIR head! LOL I mean, you can usually find a semi-private corner in the airport, but there's not much you can do once on the plane unless you want to go with some pre-pumped bottles.
Good luck to you....I recently traveled with my 3 yr old for the first time...we flew to FL from NY and it went much smoother than I thought it was going to. Have fun on your trip! :)
ETA: Now that the below poster mentioned it, I think my pedi suggested waiting until after 6 months to use sunscreen....they make those little tent things for babies though. :)

If you speak to someone at the airport (if you can find a human to interact with) you can tell them that you are traveling with a small infant and are nursing. They usually will try to block the seat next to you (or you can switch your seat****il the last minute. Usually airlines leave the last few rows empty in the back, to put children passengers flying without companions. You can switch to those rows unless the plane is full. An upside to being seated toward the back of the plane is that the engines are louder back there which will help drown out any noise. Always good when you are flying with a baby.
If nothing can be done at the gate, ask the flight attendent when you get on the plane. They will try to seat you away from people just to make the other passengers happy. They are used to business men and snooty people not wanting to stuck next to a nursling.

Also wanted to note..Most flights I went on last year they had handicapped and passengers with small children on the plane first. That should help get you all set before the mob hits the plane. Bring a light jacket.. dunno what part of florida but in South FL we go from 80+ to 50-60 at night.

First time my oldest ever flew he was 1 1/2 months old. I did not BF but had him suck a bottle on take off and landing. We had no issues. I would just suggest a blanket or something to cover onthe plane while you BF. While I see no problem in it, if their are little ones their parent's may appreciate not having to explain BF'ing.
They do not recommend sun screen for babies under 6 months of age. Keep out of direct sunlight, use hats, umbrellas, etc. Where in FL are you going? I live in South West FL myself :-)

We are frequent flyers (both my kids started flying with me around 7 weeks old). It really depends on the airline that you are traveling on. I have to say, Delta has by far been the best for extra assistence with the kiddos. Allegiant... forget it, you get what you pay for! LoL On Delta we get to board first (and last week they even let me and my two kids board the plane 10 minutes early so Mack - my 2 year old - could meet the pilots and they let him sit in the ****pit and pretend to drive the plane. It was awesome!
Anyways, when I fly Delta I always ask for help and people are SO willing to give it to you. Because I have one lap infant and one toddler flying with me now, they always arrange to move our seats to where there is an empty seat beside us. I always say this is for other people's convenience instead of ours, because I've come to find that not everyone thinks my kids are as cute as I do
As far as changes go on an airplane, ask your flight attended which one of the rest rooms has a changing table. It's kind of hidden as it folds up into the wall so they will point out the stall that contains the table. And as far as landings and takeoffs, I always have a pre-made bottle and a paci waiting in the seatback pocket for fussy babies. Because of the pressure, they probably will get fussy at some point. However, like someone said earlier, if you sit towards the back of the plane, the loader engine noise, the sucking up the bottle, and the motion of the plane should probably have your little baby lurred to sleep in no time!
Ohhhh, and just a tip on traveling to FL... (I fly there about 3 times a year with my kiddos) we just got back last week from a week long stay there and FROZE our butts off! (And we are from Maine, land of below 0 temps and snow drifts!) We ended up wearing the same things over and over again because it was the only cold weather clothes I brought, while the rest of my 50lb suitcase stayed packed. We were so cold because we are used to having the heat on in Maine. Well in FL, heat is not so readily used, so when it was 40-50 degrees outside, it was the same inside as well!!! I made several trips to Walmart to try and find some long sleeved shirts for us! I hear the weather has warmed up a bit this week there, but my tip to you would be to pack a couple cold weather items and a good jacket!
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you will do just fine!!!

Hi there! We have flown a lot with our daughgter since she was three months old, and here are some things that I wish I had known the first time out ...
1. You can check a car seat and car seat base at the desk. Make sure they are tagged, and they will bag them and you can pick them up with your suticases at the baggage claim. * They are penalty free* Yea!
2. You can check a stroller at the gate! So, your little one can ride all the way to boarding, and that will help you carry your things, too.
3. Your diaper bag can be a carry-on, and it's penalty free as well. I just put all my personal stuff in there too, and that makes it easier than a purse and a diaper bag. You can take a *reasonable* amoutn of water and food for the baby (which is usually 8 oz or under) and I know you are breastfeeding (good for you!Yea! ) so be prepared for them to check any stored milk you have either going or returning.
4. Running the diaper bag through the x-ray machine ... Take out the diaper cream, powder, wipes, any food or milk, water, or other containers and place them in a tray. If you don't you'll probably get checked in customs. They did that to me a million times before I wised up and sent it through seperate, and I haven't had an issue since. And the collapse the stroller and put it on the belt wheels side up.
I hope that helps, have a safe trip!

I took my daughter to Disney World and it was a price of cake. Like the others said take your car seat for free and stroller( even a double) free. Bring a blanket and tell them your are a bf'ing momma or ask for the window b/c then you only have to worry about one one person beside you. It was an easy flight bella nursed at take off and landing and slept the rest of the way. Good Luck!!! You will be fine!

I live in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida and the weather here has been amazing for almost a week and a half now, warm, sunny, dry and in the low 70's. But I would bring a light jacket for night. Also, I know this isn't officially spring because last March we were chilly, so I would just look at the weekly forecast for where you are going.
